Upon my return to the site, i learned that someone finally did the good deed of creating a CKII wiki. It is at the altogether reasonable location ckiiwiki.com. This is a good thing.

Of course they will eventually crush me traffic-wise, and probably already have. Of course while there are a lot of stubs, one thing that definitely worked was the ad space. Just one ad space mind you, not the horror that is Wikia, but it is there and the ad itself is advertising advertising. A moment ago i could have placed my own ad there for $0. Of course community driven information will be more complete and accurate. Judging from the recent user activity over there, it looks like Meneth from the Paradox forums is involved, and he has done a lot of fine work. I am sure it will be aces.

That said, i still plan to keep going with House d’Hauteville. Wikis are kind of dry out of necessity. They usually don’t have a ton of screenshots to show you what’s going on, and stick with telling you what’s going on. Plus, there are still quite a few people stopping in here, whyever would i abandon you? Oh, umm, yeah..

For topics covered by the wiki, i have decided to adopt a policy of Link and Advise. I will not copy the wiki’s work (and i hope no one copies mine to the wiki). I will introduce the topic, link to the appropriate page on the wiki, and add any clarifications i think are useful, including screenshots.

In a best case scenario, this lets the community do all the boring bits, and i get to add cherries on top. I hope i can continue to provide some value and a reason to stop by, but i understand that the wiki will be the short and sweet answer to your problems now and then.

Enjoy the new era or CKII enlightenment!

Annoy your friends and family!

  1. Oh hey, noticed visits from this page to the wiki. I am indeed involved with the wiki, seeing as I own it ;)

That’s something we’re trying to improve (to a certain extent, at least), but you’re right; there aren’t a lot of images currently.

Feel free to advertise on the wiki, we could use the money to pay for hosting.

Do tell me if you see anyone plagiarizing your work on the wiki, and I’ll put a stop to it. However, feel free to contribute yourself ;)
If you want to reach me you can send me a message on the wiki, the Paradox forums, or on the CKII IRC channel.

    • Well, Sir(or perhaps Miss), thank you for stopping by. I am honored.

I am glad to hear you are the owner and not simply a contributor. Best of luck to you on the venture. I have had a lot of fun watching my google analytics and following my trendlines (and seeing what couple of sites are sending people my way, to whom i am grateful), but i have a bit too much going on to provide everything everyone needs, so a wiki is unquestionably a boon to the community as a whole. I am guessing though that trying to maintain any relevance here will keep me too busy to be much of a contributor there… As my more usual visitors might sarcastically say, i am not much of a contributor here, lately.

I hope my assessment of the site was fair. I would have likely had an ad myself if my traffic was more significant, so a bit of sour grapes on my part there. :P

While i do hope that no one copies my work to the wiki, i am not in the least worried about it. It would quickly be flagged as poorly written and in need of revision anyway.

Thank you again for your kind visit.

      • I’m not a member of the nobility, so “you”, “Meneth”, or “he/him” depending on the context works fine ;)

You could make a page for this website on the wiki; we’ve got a community category for this kind of stuff.

Yeah, your assessment seems mostly fair.

  2. Your website was invaluable to me. Truly, you are a King.
